Lady Gaga 2

As you may already know, MAC Viva Glam and Lady Gaga have teamed up once again and released Lady Gaga 2 lipstick and lip glass on 2/17/11, this pass weekend I was finally able my hands both the lipstick and lip glass. I sat on Gaga I (which i love) so I was only able to get the lipstick, I want to be sure I got both the lip glass and lipstick this time.

MAC website describes Gaga 2 as "light natural beige" it is also an amplified creme which means it more creamy and pigmented. Both the lip glass and lipstick are $14.50 and can be found at MAC location as well as www.maccometics.com. As usual 100% of the proceeds go to HIV/AIDS research.

As a WOC I was a little scared that this might be a little to light for me, but applied with a light hand and a brown liner ( i used cork by MAC) it looks beautiful!!

so here what I use: I started off with my usual primer Loreal decrease primer, the followed by my NYX jumbo pencil in blackbean. The first color i used was 7th color in the last row (matte black) followed by the 7th color in the 2nd row (matte reddish brown) to blend it out and a little of the 3rd color in the last row (matte medium gray). I also used the 3rd color in the first row (shimmery peach) as my highlight. I finished the eyes off with Loreal lash primer under Loreal volumious mascara. On the rest of my face I used MAC studio moisture in dark deep, studio fix powder in nw 43, coastal scents bronzer in dark, sleek contour kit in dark, and MAC modesty lipstick.

Review: Maybelline "Fit Me" foundation

A few weeks ago I was cruising the beauty aisle of Target when I saw a display for a new foundation from maybelline, as well matching concealer, powder and blush. Typically, Maybelline does not have a shade that matches me, but saw a shade in this line the might work so I picked up shade 355 coconut (note: this was the darkest shade.

Maybelline's claims of "It's makeup that doesn’t mess with you.
No oils. No waxes. No nonsense.
Natural coverage that leaves skin the way it was meant to be…fresh, breathing, natural.
Exclusive translucent base and lightweight pigments allow skin's natural highs and lows to show through.
Non-comedogenic, dermatologist tested."sounded very promising and I hope I had found a cheap alternative foundation. Sadly I was wrong! The color match well, light weight buildable coverage and I found the packaging very sleek and modern, but that about where the pros end.
When applied the foundation look very 'greasy" despite claims of being oil free, i tried to cover the "grease" with powder but less then an hour later my face would be "greasy" again. Another con is the smell! It was awful! It was like perfume baby powder kinda smell that lingered for hours after the foundation was applied. And the last con is it lack of color range for WOC, as stated i got #355 which was the darkest color! If you read my blog I'm nc 50 and we do get darker than that. I would like to see at least 3 or more shades in the "dark" category.
Overall I was very disappointed in this foundation, its going back to the store!

NW 45 vs. NC 50

About four years ago I started to wear MAC. I went to the stand and told the MUA that I wanted a foundation, concealer and a powder, but I didn't know what color to get. She ended up matching me to NW 45, I didn't know anything I figure she was the expert so I trusted her opinion. I didn't know the different NW and NC. I assumed NW was warm and NC was cool.

I was somewhat pleased at first but sometimes I would notice that my skin would look really orange or my face would look way more red the my neck and chest. So I decide to try another brand, so I tried MUFE and a few other brands, because I thought i was NW 45, I would use that as a base to pick out colors which were also very red. Unsatisfied I returned to MAC Studi Fix Fluid the only problem I had with the foundation was the color.

Then I seen a couple of youtube videos with lovely ladies who were using NC 50 their skin tone looked very similar to mines and I began to toy with the idea that maybe I was an NC 50. Also around that time i found out MAC coloring was some what backwards NW are the red/pink undertones and NC are the golden/yellow undertones. It was all making sense to me now. I went to a different MAC stand and got matched again. The MUA said to me "What color do you normally wear" when I told her an NW 45 she sort of made a face and replied "You sure you look like an NC 50" I told her I wasn't so she applied both to my face and the difference was subtle, but there. That was about a year ago and I been rocking NC 50 every since. However there still is some red tones in my face (the rest of my body is very yellow) so to balance it out I use Studio fix powder in NW 43.
Even a few months ago when the new pro longwear came out has to "convince" the MUA to sample NC 50 on me. After trying her suggestion, NW 45 and my NC 50 she had to admit "Yea the NC 50 is much better on you"

Photobucket

as you can see the difference of Nw 45 and Nc 50 are very slight but as the day goes on Nw 45 does mix with the oils and get redder. What happens when you mix red and yellow?? You get orange.

Photobucket

me with no makeup as you can see the center is yellow and the outer is more red, my neck and chest are yellow. therefore to get a more uniformed look I go with a yellow based foundation now.

this is what they look like in the bottles

blended out slightly (as you can see the NC 50 sort of disappears in to my skin)
